Goodbye Acadia, Hello Camden & Rockport
Last nights bonfire and s’mores activities went way later than expected but it was a perfect ending to our time in Acadia. The sun was shining bright this morning however we had some sleepy kids! Today we are switching locations to the Camden/Rockport area. A breakfast of pancakes started everyone off in a good mood and then most of the kids went down to the water to swim and fish and kayak one last time.
The rest of us packed up the suitcases and coolers as quickly as we could. With some weather expected on Friday, we switched our schooner cruise to today so we had to be in Rockport by noon. It was a great house (though a little too far away from Acadia and Bar Harbor) and everyone was sad to say goodbye.

Then we were off! We made great time and arrived at the harbor just in time to board the Schooner Heron - a 65 foot sailboat. It’s a beautiful sailboat with two masts and four sails. We motored out of the harbor and then the kids were able to help raise the sails and we were sailing. It was a fairly calm day so it took a bit of effort to get the sails to do their job but eventually they were able to turn off the motor and we cruised along the shoreline. The kids enjoyed sitting in different places on the boat and the adults enjoyed the quiet and relaxing time on the water. Keely, Ainsley and Ilah looked like true American sailors in their matching outfits!

After the cruise, we walked around the harbor in hopes of finding some ice cream but the only place in walking distance was closed. So we hopped back into the cars and drove to nearby Camden for ice cream. Delicious!
It was time to check into the hotel. We’re here for two nights so we ended up bringing most of the car to the room as we didn’t have time to consolidate into less suitcases after leaving Ellsworth. Even though it was a beautiful day, the kids wanted to go swimming in the indoor pool. Keely, Ilah, Jane and Cole chaperoned the swimmers while I went for a quick 5 mile run through Camden and Dan took a nap.

The dinner plan for tonight was pizza from American Flatbread. We opted for takeout and found some picnic tables at Laite Memorial Beach. The tables were up on the grassy hill overlooking a sandy beach and some of the harbor. It was a beautiful evening and view. The kids ate briefly but spent most of their time on the beach looking for shells and sea glass and other treasures.
Finally it was time to go home. The kids were full of sand so everyone took showers when we got back to the room. The room is not necessarily designed for a family of 7 but we made do. At least the kids got to bed before 10 tonight!
