Happy Anniversary!
Today is Dan & Jane’s 50th wedding anniversary and our 16th wedding anniversary! Happy Anniversary! Our morning started nice and slow with everyone sleeping in. Whitaker and I met Grandma & Grandpa for breakfast in the hotel lobby and slowly over the next hour everyone else trickled in for a breakfast of eggs, sausage, waffles, yogurt or cereal (in most cases, all of the above). It was a bit of a dreary and wet morning so we opted to postpone our morning activity in favor of

Goodbye Acadia, Hello Camden & Rockport
Last nights bonfire and s’mores activities went way later than expected but it was a perfect ending to our time in Acadia. The sun was shining bright this morning however we had some sleepy kids! Today we are switching locations to the Camden/Rockport area. A breakfast of pancakes started everyone off in a good mood and then most of the kids went down to the water to swim and fish and kayak one last time. The rest of us packed up the suitcases and coolers as quickly as we cou

The Sun Shines in Acadia
What a difference a day makes. Today was the opposite of yesterdays cold, rainy day. The sun shined bright and the temperature was much warmer when we woke up. Another late night for the kids meant they mostly slept in today despite the bright sunrise. A breakfast of pancakes hit the spot for the cousins. The group split up this morning as our family along with Hana wanted to do the Beehive Loop in Acadia, Dan and Jane wanted to stay home, and Ari wanted to stay back to go ka

Odin’s Birthday!
Happy 9th Birthday Odin! We woke up to a rainy morning in Maine. The fog was thick across the lake and most of the kids slept in a bit later than they have been. The first thing Odin wanted to do this morning was go kayaking with the new paddles so the kids all put their swimsuits on and headed out into the rainy, 50 degree weather and jumped in the lake. They finally got cold enough to come back inside shortly before lunch. The rain was letting up so we decided to pack some

Lobster Fishing
No rush this morning as our first activity wasn’t until 10 in Southwest Harbor. Dan & Jane made the kids favorite breakfast - French Toast with peanut butter and syrup. So sticky but the kids devoured it. Our main activity for the day was going on a lobster boat to experience lobster fishing as well as hopefully seeing some wildlife. We met up with our captain and guide at the Southwest Harbor docks at 10 and then we boarded the Elizabeth T for our adventure. One other family

Acadia on Father’s Day
Our house has a ton of windows so we have a great view of the lake. Unfortunately that view faces east, there are no shades or blinds on any of the windows and the sun rises really, really early in Maine. For the most part, the kids survived the sleepover except for Whitaker who slept in our bed the whole night. The bright morning meant I woke up before everyone else so I took off for a quick run before the rest of the house was awake. It was a beautiful sunny morning in Main

Driving up the Coast of Maine
We left Freeport this morning to head up to our house in Ellsworth, ME near Acadia. We had several planned stops along the way. The first was Boothbay Harbor and the Maine State Aquarium. To our surprise, the parking lot was full and cars were lined up along the road. We parked and walked to the aquarium to see the lawn overlooking the bay full of people in lawn chairs and blankets to watch the lobster boat races! Apparently throughout the summer, the captains of these boats

Our travels began yesterday as we are driving to Maine while everyone else is flying. We left Madison a touch later than we wanted to due to getting home well after midnight thanks for an amazing Garth Brooks concert on Wednesday. Bucket list item complete! Unfortunately traveling east means driving through Chicago a
