Today is Dan & Jane’s 50th wedding anniversary and our 16th wedding anniversary! Happy Anniversary!

Our morning started nice and slow with everyone sleeping in. Whitaker and I met Grandma & Grandpa for breakfast in the hotel lobby and slowly over the next hour everyone else trickled in for a breakfast of eggs, sausage, waffles, yogurt or cereal (in most cases, all of the above).

It was a bit of a dreary and wet morning so we opted to postpone our morning activity in favor of some pool time. While the cousins swam, Liam decided he’d like to go on a run with me. We drove down to the water. The plan was to run a mile along the harbor which turned into two miles. He was doing so well after mile two that we just kept going (and getting faster!). He did great and we made it back to the car after three miles and a lot of hills. It was my favorite run of the vacation!

We got back to the hotel just as everyone was getting out of the water. Perfect timing. Since it started to rain a bit harder, we had some leftovers for lunch in the hotel lobby before braving the weather and going to walk around town.

We timed things perfectly. As we ducked in and out of antique stores, galleries, book shops and the harbor’s boardwalk, the weather cleared and the sun started to come out. It was a beautiful way to spend the early afternoon. Camden is such a great town!

We had 5:30 dinner reservations at Primo in Rockland. Primo is the whole reason why we came to Maine on our honeymoon 16 years ago. They are a true locally sourced restaurant as they have a massive garden and raise their own chickens, layers, ducks and pigs on the property. Being across the road from the ocean means fresh fish as well!

We got to the restaurant early and walked through the gardens and saw the animals. Then it was time for dinner. Our table was fairly secluded on the second floor of the house turned restaurant which was perfect for the kids and adults to converse.

The food was amazing. We had appetizers of scallops and smoked quail. For entrees most of the kids opted for pasta with red sauce. Odin chose a pepperoni pizza and Hana ordered a Margherita pizza. The adults had halibut, steak, tuna and pork stramboli dishes. All were excellent. Of course it wouldn’t be an anniversary dinner without dessert and it seemed like we ordered everything! Strawberry rhubarb crustini, strawberry shortcake, cinnamon sugar donuts, salted caramel profiteroles and a chocolate Bavarian bread pudding. All were outstanding.

All in all it ended up being a 3 hour dinner and the kids were so well behaved - even when Ainsley lost a tooth in the middle of dinner! So much so that someone on the other side of the wall came over to tell us how proud we should be of our well mannered kids. Boy did we fool her!

Despite the weather, we had a wonderful anniversary capped by an amazing dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in the world. Happy Anniversary indeed!
